I am delighted to endorse Scott Bokun for School Committee. I met Scott during his 13 years at Hancock Nursery School, where he was my son’s first teacher. It was obvious from day one that his passion for helping children and their families succeed in their first school experience was genuine. Scott is unfailingly kind and patient, and combines those qualities with intelligence, dedication, creativity and an incredibly positive outlook. The result was – not surprisingly – a classroom that was equal parts fun, learning, exploring and growing.
In seeking a School Committee seat, Scott hopes to continue the work he began with his young students, most of whom are currently LPS students. Ensuring that our children’s education gives them what they need to succeed beyond Lexington classrooms, no matter where they go from here, is critical. We have excellent schools, but there are also many challenges: over-crowding at all grade levels, an aging and outdated high school, concerns regarding equity, diversity and inclusion, and unhealthy student stress levels. To continue providing an education that will serve our children well, innovative solutions are required.
I have no doubt that Scott’s experiences as an educator, Town Meeting member, Lexington parent and tireless community volunteer uniquely prepare him to make a significant contribution to our School Committee. He has volunteered countless hours to supporting our kids and our town throughout his 23 years in Lexington, and he is committed to working hard for our future as well. On March 4th, please join me in voting for Scott Bokun for School Committee.
